from, and you want to find the one that best fits your needs and your
budget. We present here a selection of versatile, state-of-the-art
jogging strollers. They are lightweight for you and comfortable for the
baby. Perfect for a walk in the park, a run by the river, or a trip to
the mall.
Jogging Strollers
The first jogging
stroller was designed by a jogger dad who wanted to spend
more time with his child. He soon discovered that the strollers
available back in 1984 couldn't stand up to the speed, distance, and
rugged
terrain of an ordinary jog. Thus was born the Baby
Jogger company. In the years since, jogging
strollers have undergone many developments, but here are the features
that set them apart from other strollers.
- Three large wheels for better handling of different terrain
- Safety harness to hold baby comfortably and securely
- Sun/rain shade to protect baby from the elements
- Suspension designed for smooth ride
- Fold up for travel and storage
Choosing Your Jogging Stroller
A lot of factors go into the decision
of which jogger stroller
you will buy. How will you plan to use it? Where will you go? How
important is one-handed folding or unfolding? Is weight a factor? Here
are some of the decisions you will want to consider:
- How old is your child? Most of the manufacturers suggest that your baby be able to hold his head up. But some of these strollers are suitable for newborns, and some offer optional accessories that make the stroller suitable for a newborn.
- Where will you go? Do you really want to jog, or are you looking for around-town walks to the park or the grocery store? Running long distances over rugged terrain will require better suspension -- and heavier weight -- than walking around the block or through the mall.
- How much do you plan to carry? Some strollers offer more storage space than others, and some offer accessory packges for extra storage.
- Do you have a free hand to fold or unfold it? Some strollers are easy to fold or unfold. Others take two hands and a little practice. What works for you?
- Fixed or free wheel? The free-turning front wheel gives you better maneuverability in tight spaces. The fixed wheel gives better stability if you aren't going to need tight turns. A lot of strollers give a free-turning wheel that you can lock when you want to.
- Accessories. All these companies offer accessories. Don't rule out one you love because it lacks one thing -- you might find just the add-on to make it perfect.
- What do you like? Style is important. Find one you like to look at.
